A young snowboarder was killed in a tragic accident on Spirit Mountain near Duluth this past weekend.
Spirit Mountain executive director Brandy Ream confirmed in a statement to BMTN that the 20-year-old man died following an incident Sunday afternoon.
He had been snowboarding with friends when he got injured, with ski patrollers finding him at the bottom of the Big Air Terrain Park, where they began treatment.
He was loaded into a Gold Cross ambulance at 1:40 p.m. and taken to a local hospital, where he died.
"This is a terrible tragedy, our condolences to the family and friends at this time," Ream said.
The Duluth News Tribune reports he was on one of the mountain's more challenging hills at the time, and friends had gone to look for him when he didn't appear at the bottom.
The Big Air Terrain Park is around 450 feet in length and has a vertical drop of 100 feet.
