You're a mean one: Thief steals Grinch decoration from St. Cloud lawn

The three words that best sum up a thief in St. Cloud are as follows, and I quote: "Stink, stank, stunk."

In a rare case of a crook being described perfectly by the item he has stolen, the thief swiped a 4-foot tall plywood Christmas decoration in the shape of the Grinch from the Pogatchnik family's lawn Monday afternoon, the St. Cloud Times reports.

The decoration was created by Russ Pogatchnik, the newspaper notes, who had connected the Grinch's painted frame to a string of lights so it looked like he was taking them down from their home near St. Cloud Hospital.

According to FOX 9, the theft was noticed around 3:30 p.m. Monday when the family's dog began barking.

The experience has been upsetting for the family's two children, aged 1 and 3, who the TV station notes are avid watchers of the Grinch movie.

Another homemade wooden decoration, of Olaf the snowman from Frozen, has been taken inside for safe-keeping.

In Dr. Seuss' famous book, the Grinch tries, but fails to ruin Christmas for the people of Whoville by stealing their presents and trees on Christmas Eve, but the Pogatchniks are adamant the theft won't ruin their holiday celebrations.

And in the spirit of the season, Karlyn Pogatchnik said that the thief needn't have broken the law. He could have just knocked on their door and asked for it and they would have made another one, they told the St. Cloud Times.
