Zipcar, a car-sharing service that allows for short-term rentals, plans to expand its Minneapolis operations by adding 40 more cars in convenient neighborhoods throughout the city, the Star Tribune reports.

The vehicles will be located in downtown Minneapolis, Dinkytown, Loring Park, Northeast, the North Loop and Seven Corners.

The Massachusetts-based company, which is now owned by Avis Budget Group, has offered its cars on the campus of University of Minnesota since 2005.

"I'm very excited to welcome Zipcar to Minneapolis; their expansion in our city is great news for people who want to spend their money on things other than owning a car," Mayor Rybak, said in a statement.

Zipar plans to expand its fleet to even more Twin Cities areas later this year, and is working with the city of Minneapolis to establish on-street parking spots, according to a news release.
