Little did Fernando Abad know that he would be getting ripped by Boston media less than 48 hours after the Twins traded him to the Red Sox.

No fault of his own, Abad's last name is really easy to work with when describing something ... bad. And that's exactly what the Boston Herald did with a headline after Abad got roughed up in his Red Sox debut.

Abad came into the game in the eighth with two runners on and All-Star Robinson Cano at the plate for the Mariners. Abad got ahead of him with a pair of quick strikes only to hang a curve over the middle that Cano launched into the seats for a 3-run homer. Boston had a 4-2 lead before Cano took Abad deep for the winner.

Boston takes frustration with Twins into Saturday night game

The Twins are playing spoiler for the Boston Red Sox. After taking two of three from AL East-leading New York last weekend and doing the same against Detroit, Boston (53-54) has lost its first two against Minnesota, which has the second-worst record in the AL. Boston hopes to turn that around with Clay Buchholz pitching. Minnesota has won six of the last eight, and sends Cole De Vries, winless in his last five starts, to the mound.
