Dylan Beach-Bittner admits he was shaking a little on the opening day of the hunting season as a 27-point buck came out of the woods about 100 yards from his tree stand – and started walking toward him, the Brainerd Dispatch reports.

He fired his .270-caliber into the animal's front shoulder. The 229-pound animal fell, got back up and then collapsed for good, the newspaper reports. Dylan is still stunned by photos of himself with the trophy, which was being taken to a taxidermist for a full shoulder mount. “It seems like it gets bigger every time I see it," he said.

The Dispatch interviews Dylan:

Dylan's not the only Minnesota kid who has done well this season: An 11-year-old St. Michael boy got an 11-point buck, Patch reported.

After the first three days of Minnesota’s firearms deer season, the buck harvest across northeastern Minnesota was up 8 percent from last year, but the harvest of antlerless deer was down 22 percent, the Duluth News Tribune reports.
