Gophers defeat Huskies, 2-1

The No. 3-rated Gophers (18-9-1, 14-5-0) ended their Friday night losing streak at Mariucci Arena with a 2-1 victory over St. Cloud State (10-13-4, 7-9-3). Nick Bjugstad scored the game-winning goal about halfway through the second period. U of M will travel to the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud Saturday night for the second half of this home-and-home series.

Nico Sacchetti scored the winning goal for the Golden Gophers (17-9-1, 13-5-0 WCHA) early in the second period Saturday night. No. 4 Minnesota would hold onto the 2-1 victory to split the series with No. 11 Colorado College at Mariucci arena. The Gophers host the St. Cloud State Huskies on Friday.

Badgers top No. 1 Gophers, 3-1

The Wisconsin Badgers defeated the Golden Gopher men's hockey team 3-1 Friday night at the Kohl Center. It's Minnesota's first WCHA loss of the season. All three Wisconsin goals came in the second period.

The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Wild 3-2 Thursday night at Xcel Energy Center. It’s Minnesota’s fourth loss in their last five games, and they’ve failed to score more than two goals in six straight games. Jared Spurgeon and Matt Cullen scored for the Wild.

Gophers lose to Colorado College

The Golden Gophers dropped an important home game to Colorado College Friday night. Nick Bjugstad tied the score 1-1 with 1:17 left in the third period, but the Tigers scored the game winner 41 seconds later, sending Minnesota to a last second loss.

Gophers complete first sweep of 2012

Minnesota (19-9-1, 13-5-0 WCHA) held onto a 3-2 victory over St. Cloud State University Saturday night at the National Hockey Center. The Huskies (10-14-4, 7-10-3 WCHA) netted the first lead, but the Gophers freshman forward Sam Warning went to score the game-winning goal with less than two minutes left in the third. Minnesota is off to Denver in two weeks. The Gophers now lead UMD by five points in the WCHA standings.
