Ex-Viking Ray Edwards returns to ring


Former Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards climbs back into a boxing ring tonight at Grand Casino Hinckley. It's his second fight as a professional, as he faces Cory Briggs on a six-bout card.

Edwards played with Atlanta this season, but was cut in November, according to the Star Tribune.

As for boxing, Edwards made his ring debut in May of 2011 against T.J. Gibson, winning by a unanimous decision.

The Atlanta Falcons have cut former Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards. Edwards, who signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract last season, totaled just 3.5 sacks in 25 games with Atlanta -- and none this year.

Ray Edwards had some good practice battles against Phil Loadholt when he played for the Vikings. Edwards now lines up for the Atlanta Falcons, and he'll meet Loadholt in a game for the first time when the Vikings play the Falcons Sunday.
