The usual suspects from Minnesota have made it onto the latest of Forbes' list of world billionaires – but most of them aren't worth as much as they were a year ago.

This year's list, topped for the 16th time by Microsoft owner Bill Gates, features five names from Minnesota, with Cargill part-owner Whitney MacMillan once again the richest billionaire from the North Star State.

He ranked 341st on the list with an estimated net worth of $4.7 billion as of March 3, but this is slightly down on the $4.8 billion he was worth this time last year, when he ranked 305th in the world.

It was the same case for radio and television magnate Stanley Hubbard and Carlson Inc. sisters Barbara Carlson Gage and Marilyn Carlson Nelson, who according to Forbes saw their net worth drop over the past year.

The only Minnesotan to see their worth rise is self-made billionaire and Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor.

Where the richest Minnesotans ranked

  • No. 341: Whitney MacMillan – Part-owner of agribusiness and food giant Cargill Inc. Net worth $4.7 billion (2014: $4.8 billion.)
  • No. 782: Glen Taylor – Owner of Taylor Corp, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Star Tribune. Net worth $2.4 billion (2014: $1.8 billion.)
  • No. 949: Stanley Hubbard – Owner of Hubbard Broadcasting. Net worth $2 billion (2014: $2.3 billion.)
  • No. 1638 (joint): Barbara Carlson Gage and Marilyn Carlson Nelson – Shared owners of hotel and travel company Carlson Inc. Net worth $1.1 billion each (2014: $4.4 billion.)

Several other members of the Cargill family have made it onto the list, but they are not included among the Minnesotans as they live elsewhere in the United States.

Other notable entries in the list include Florida's Richard Schulze, the chairman of Minneapolis-based Best Buy, who has a net worth of $2.9 billion – enough for 629th on the list.

Ranking as the 142nd richest person alive is John Menard Jr. the Eau Claire, Wisconsin, based owner of Menards who is worth a massive $9.2 billion.
