5 named to Vikings stadium authority

The new high-profile Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority has a big job ahead -- overseeing the design, construction and financing of a gleaming new NFL stadium in downtown Minneapolis and keeping the $1 billion project on time and on budget.

Here are the people who have signed on to shepherd the massive stadium project:

Michele Kelm-Helgen, deputy chief of staff for Gov. Mark Dayton; John Griffith, vice president of property development for Target Corporation; former NFL player and lobbyist Duane Benson; Barbara Butts-Williams from Capella University and Bill McCarthy from Minneapolis Central Labor.

Ted Mondale to lead Vikings stadium authority

The newly created five-member Minnesota Sports Facility Authority, which will work with the Minnesota Vikings to oversee construction of a $975 million downtown Minneapolis football stadium, named Ted Mondale as its executive director. Mondale, who advocated on behalf of the Dayton administration for the stadium, will earn an annual salary of $157,181.

KSTP has obtained a list of candidates who may be in the running for positions on the new Vikings Stadium Authority, which will oversee the billion-dollar project. Among them: Ted Mondale and Duane Benson, the former head of the Minnesota Business Partnership and retired NFL player.
