Backstrom out, Wild signs 51-year old

This is easily the strangest story regarding the Wild this season. Niklas Backstrom was scratched from tonight's start against Nashville due to personal reasons. Josh Harding will start instead, but the backup is a freshly signed 51-year old beer league goalie named Paul Deutsch.

Wild goalies Harding, Backstrom return; Hackett sent down

Wild goalie Josh Harding returns to the cage tonight, getting his first start since March 8 when he tweaked a lower body injury against Phoenix. Nicklas Backstrom is also back in the fold as Harding's backup. Gone is Matt Hackett, who was sent down to Houston.

Wild GM Chuck Fletcher: 'We have no interest in trading Backstrom'

Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher tells the Star Tribune there is no way they are trading Niklas Backstrom. Fletcher loves the goalie tandem that Backstrom and Josh Harding provide. He points out that the duo was one of the main reasons the Wild were on top of the NHL over the first 30 games last season.

Harding signs new 3-year deal with Wild

Backup goalie Josh Harding has signed a new three-year contract with the Wild. The Star Tribune says it’s worth $5.75 million dollars overall. Harding, who could have tested the free-agent market next month, said he wasn’t interested in signing with Minnesota unless it was a multi-year contract.

With Backstrom hurting, Wild recall Hackett

Goalie Matt Hackett is back with the Wild. He was recalled from Houston today to replace Niklas Backstrom, who was injured in last night’s shootout loss to Montreal. Hackett will back up Josh Harding, who will likely start in goal tonight in Detroit.
