Royals lean on Brett for hitting spark


There will be a familiar face in the Kansas City dugout tonight, where the Twins take on the Royals in a three-game series: former batting champion George Brett.

He's the Royals’ interim hitting coach. He took the post last week, after the team settled back into last place in the American League Central Division.

Brett, 60, leaves the K.C. front office for the job. It may only last a few weeks, but some hope it will jump-start a struggling Royals offense that's averaging less than three runs per game during a 3-14 slide.

As former Royals catcher and manager John Wathan puts it: “When George talks, you better listen.”
