7th time the charm? Hermantown will play Breck in 1A hockey final



Hermantown rolled over St. Paul Academy 7-1 on Friday afternoon in St. Paul and they'll play in their seventh consecutive state championship game on Saturday at noon.

Ryan Sandelin and Logan Judnick each scored a pair of goals in the Hawks victory.

Hermantown is no stranger to state championship games, they have lost in the title games for the previous six seasons.

Their matchup this year won't be a lot easier, they meet up with the No. 2-seeded Breck Mustangs.


Breck 4, Thief River Falls 0

Tyler Scott scored a pair of goals Linden Olness stopped all 18 shots he faced as Breck shutout Thief River Falls 4-0 Friday afternoon in the semifinals.

Breck's Chase Ellingson added a goal and an assist of his own and Justin Paulson and Dalton Weigel chipped in a pair of assists in the Mustangs victory.

Breck matches up with the tournament's top seed Hermantown in Saturday's state Class 1A championship.

Class 2A

Wayzata 2, Stillwater 1

Wayzata built an early two goal lead, then held on for a 2-1 victory over Stillwater in Friday's Class 2A semifinal.

Logan Lindstrand and Griffin Ness scored to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. The game stayed that way until the third period when Stillwater's Jackson Cates scoured to cut the lead in half.

But Wayzata held off Stillwater the rest of the way to move to the title game.

They'll meet up with either Eden Prairie or Grand Rapids in Saturday's championship.

Eden Prairie 6, Grand Rapids 2

Top-seeded Eden Prairie will play for the Class 2A championship as they beat No. 4 seed Grand Rapids 6-2 Friday night in the semifinals.

Casey Mittelstadt had a hat trick and two assists to help lead the Eagles.

The Eagles will meet up with Wayzata in the 2A championship.

Next Up
