After rain dampens fires, BWCA portages re-open

Author:

Nearly two inches of rain have helped firefighters quench a wildfire in the Boundary Waters Canoe area near the Canadian border.

Because of this, Minnesota Public Radio reports, 24 campsites and nine portages that had been closed because of the fire will reopen Friday evening. Campfire restrictions have also been lifted says MPR.

Here's a tweet from the Superior National Forest:

The Knife Lake fire burned 188 acres since it was first reported Tuesday. Initially the portages were closed Wednesday, as KARE 11 reported.
