Tre Jones came up just short in winning a second consecutive state championship with Apple Valley, but the highly recruited guard was named Minnesota's "Mr. Basketball" winner.
Jones was playing in the McDonald's All-American Game in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday night, so wasn't in attendance to receive the award as the top senior player in the state at Target Center.
The Duke-bound point guard finished the All-American Game with 7 points and 8 assists.
Jones beat out Daniel Oturu (Cretin-Derham Hall), Owen King (Caledonia), Gabe Kalscheur (DeLaSalle) and Calvin Wishart (Delano).
In last Saturday's Class 4A state championship game, Jones and Apple Valley got into an incredible battle with Oturu and Cretin-Derham Hall, with Oturu slamming home the game-winning dunk with just 0.5 seconds left on the clock.
