Backstrom leaves game with injury

Niklas Backstrom left tonight's game in Montreal in the first period with an injury. The Wild's goalie was helped off the ice after making a routine save. Backstrom had a difficult time putting weight on his left side.

Backstrom expects to return soon

Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom practiced for a second day in a row Tuesday, and he could return to game action before the end of the season. Backstrom says, "I'm trying to do everything I can so it will be soon." He injured his groin in a March 1st game against Montreal.

Good news for the Wild as Mikko Koivu and Niklas Backstrom were full participants in practice Thursday. Koivu will try and practice again Friday before being reevaluated before Saturday's game against Carolina. Mike Yeo said Backstrom looked "really good", but there isn't a timetable for his return.
