Gophers crush Boston College; St. Cloud State, Mankato pick up wins


Vinni Lettieri scored his first two goals of the season to help fuel a Minnesota rout over No. 12 Boston College, 6-2 Friday night in Boston, Massachusetts.

Sam Warning started the scoring for the Gophers at the 16:57 mark of the first period and just like that, Minnesota was off to the races. The No. 3 Gophers ( poll) went up by two goals on Lettieri's first of the game at the 17:32 mark of the second. Ben Marshall found the back of the net just 50 seconds later put the Gophers up by three.

Justin Kloos assisted on the goals by Warning and Marshall.

Boston College struck for a pair of goals early in the third period, but Jake Bischoff's score midway through the final frame put Minnesota back on top by two; and a little more than three minutes later Lettieri struck for a second time.

Connor Reilly added an empty-net goal to push the lead to four and finish the the game.

Minnesota plays Northeastern in Boston at 6 p.m. Saturday.

St. Cloud State blasts Bemidji State

Bemidji State was no match for St. Cloud State on Friday night, falling to the Huskies at home by a score of 6-3. According to the Bemidji Pioneer, the Beavers have now lost seven straight games.

Hat trick for Minnesota State

Lake Superior State stood no chance against the more powerful Minnesota State Mavericks. Mankato blasted the Lakers, 7-0. The star of the game was junior forward Brett Knowles, who recorded his first career hat trick, according to MSU athletics.
