Bank on ice: Gophers to bring outdoor hockey to TCF stadium

After a half a year of speculation, it appears as though the University of Minnesota will bring outdoor college hockey to the TCF Bank football stadium.

RandBall over at the Star Tribune has the scoop, saying the U announced this afternoon a news conference at TCF Bank Stadium set for 2 p.m. Tuesday. Sources said the announcement will confirm the speculation, says Michael Rand.

The date of the hockey game and the opponent, which has been long rumored to be against Ohio State, will be announced and likely scheduled for a day between Jan. 17-19, according to Gold & Gopher.

First reports of the notion appeared in February, and has picked up in recent weeks.

The Gophers played an outdoor game in February at Soldier Field in Chicago as part of the Hockey City Classic.
