Bloomington Ice Garden finishes runner-up in Kraft Hockeyville contest
Kraft announced the winner of its Hockeyville USA contest on Saturday, and Bloomington Ice Garden (or BIG) fell to The Rostraver Ice Garden in Blue Vernon, Pennsylvania.
The winner scored $150,000 in arena upgrades and will also host an NHL preseason game. BIG still received $75,000 for finishing runner-up.
“We are so pleased to accept this prize on behalf of the Bloomington community,” Ice Garden Manager Bob Carr said. “The money will be used for planned renovations of the facility. This has been a great experience for everyone involved.”
For the last week, people were casting votes to determine the winner.
Rink managers told KARE 11 they're hoping to upgrade the locker rooms, viewing areas and food service facilities.
According to USA Hockey, over 1,300 communities across the country submitted stories for this year's competition.
