Bowling Green University will be joining the Western Collegiate Hockey Association beginning in the 2013-14 season. Bowling Green is the fifth new addition to the conference. The new look WCHA now has nine teams ready to start play two years from now.

St. Cloud State to join UMD in new college hockey conference

The National Collegiate Hockey Conference will soon have two new members: St. Cloud State and Western Michigan of Kalamazoo, Mich. That would bring league membership to eight along with Minnesota Duluth, North Dakota, Denver, Colorado College, Nebraska-Omaha and Miami of Ohio.

Lucia pleased with WCHA start

Despite dropping in the national polls, Golden Gopher men's hockey coach Don Lucia is pleased with his team's play through 14 games. He's especially happy with an 8-2-0 record in WCHA play. The Gophers have a one point lead over UMD for first place in the conference.

Patterson is WCHA goalie champion

Kent Patterson is the 2011-12 WCHA goalie champion. The award goes to the goalie with the lowest in-conference goals against average, and Patterson led the WCHA with a 2.06 GAA. Patterson was also the Gophers' nomination for WCHA Player of the Year, which will be announced next week.
