Bradford's comeback cut short; Vikes win anyway, 20-17

Keenum takes over for hobbling QB.

After being out for three games, Sam Bradford's return was a lot of three and out.

The Vikings quarterback was back in the starting lineup Monday night in Chicago. But Minnesota's first three possessions each ended after three plays – the third time with Bradford getting tackled in the end zone for a Bears safety.

Clearly still gimpy from a knee injury, Bradford was relieved just before halftime by Case Keenum who helped the Vikings pull out a victory in Soldier Field, 20-17.

The safety happened because Bradford didn't budge from the end zone, even when he couldn't find an open receiver.

His inability to move became more obvious as the half wore on.

The Vikes answered Chicago's safety with a field goal for a halftime lead that was more like a baseball score: 3-2.

Seeing Keenum replace Bradford – who has been through two ACL surgeries – was a relief to many, including a fellow quarterback watching on TV.

Keenum opened the second half with an impressive touchdown drive, completing all six of his passes. He hit Kyle Rudolph for a 13 yard touchdown.

After the Bears scored a touchdown on a fake punt, Jerick McKinnon broke loose for a 58-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to restore Minnesota's eight point lead.

The feisty Bears, who had won eight of the last nine matchups between these teams in Soldier Field, tied it up in the fourth on rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky's first NFL touchdown pass followed by a two-point conversion.

But when Trubisky tried to lead Chicago to a winning drive late in the game, Pro Bowl safety Harrison Smith was there for an interception that set up the Vikings' winning field goal.

On Sunday the Vikings are back at U.S. Bank Stadium to face the Green Bay Packers at noon.

A Minnesota win would leave the teams tied for first in the NFC's north division. It would be a three-way tie if the Detroit Lions also win their game in New Orleans.
