Former Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater officially inked his contract with the New York Jets on Sunday, five days after his deal was reported.

The long wait prompted some national media to speculate whether Bridgewater would back out of the contract and look to play elsewhere, but that's not the case.

“I’m excited about the direction we’re headed in," Bridgewater said, via the Jets. "I’m excited to be a part of something that can be very special and I just look forward to getting to work with the guys and a great year.”

Bridgewater took just nine snaps all of last season and didn't play at all in 2016 after suffering a dislocated knee and ACL tear. But he is healthy enough to play considering he passed his physical with the Jets, according to Pro Football Talk

“It’s a young team, an ambitious team,” Bridgewater added. “The coaching staff has positive energy, great energy and I think that with the combination of the talent that’s on the team, that’s something special to be a part of.”

The Jets made a blockbuster trade Saturday to get the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft from the Colts. Bridgewater's future in New York will be questioned even further if the Jets select a quarterback with that pick.

Bridgewater's deal has been reported as a one-year, $15 million deal.
