Former wrestling standout at the University of Minnesota, Brock Lesnar is retiring from MMA wrestling, according to a report from Marc Raimondi of MMA Fightining.com.

UFC officials confirmed to ESPN.com on Tuesday evening that the report is true.

Lesnar who also wrestles in the WWE, returned to the UFC last July after a five-year absence.

Initially he defeated Mark Hunt at UFC 200, but the win was overturned to a "no contest" after Lesnar failed a drug test.

The results of the drug test were released after Lesnar defeated Hunt.

He was suspended one year by the USADA in December but since he's now retired he no longer has to serve that suspension. If Lesnar opts to return to MMA fighting, he'll have to serve the remainder of that suspension.

Lesnar finishes his tenure in the UFC with a 5-3 record.

During his senior year at U of M, Lesnar won the NCAA Division 1 heavyweight championship. He also had a brief tenure with the Vikings in 2004.
