Butler vows to recruit free agents who are 'better than myself'

Free agency opens on July 1.

Timberwolves fans gathered at Mall of America Thursday to welcome Jimmy Butler to Minnesota.

Butler is an established star who's been to three All-Star Games and has been a member of the NBA's All-Defensive team for the past four seasons. He even said that the Wolves have one of the best Big 3's in the game and vows to help recruit some names bigger than his when free agency begins Saturday.

"I'll be talking to a lot of really good players – much better than myself I'll tell you that and get them here to join what we have," said Butler. "I know that with the support that I've already felt from this city, they're definitely going to love it. Getting here with this young core, winning these games, anybody's going to be want to be a part of that."

Minnesota has been linked to prominent players like Paul George, Kyle Lowry and George Hill. George and Lowry have been to multiple All-Star Games while Hill recently helped the Jazz end their five-year playoff drought.

The Timberwolves only have about $19 million in cap space, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the team trade point guard Ricky Rubio. Rubio's been the subject of trade rumors all year and is due $14 million next season.
