Carl Pavano has been shut down for the remainder of the season after a new diagnosis on his sore shoulder revealed a bruise to his humerus bone, which heals with rest. Pavano said his season has been a "total failure" and he's upset that it took three months to figure out what the main problem was.
Twins closer Matt Capps is headed back to the 15 day DL with shoulder soreness. It's his second trip to the DL in the last month. Taking his spot on the roster is Nick Blackburn, who put together two good starts after being demoted to AAA Rochester. Blackburn's ERA with the Twins this season is 8.10.

Minnesota Twins pitcher Carl Pavano is returning to Minneapolis Sunday to meet with the team's physician, and then will have an MRI exam done on his sore right shoulder Monday. Pavano gave up seven runs and nine hits in 3 2-3 innings against the Cleveland Indians Friday. Pavano's MRI on May 11 revealed a strain in the front of his right shoulder.
Ryan Doumit's mammoth two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning tied the game, 4-4, but Matt Capps gave up a run in the ninth and the Indians beat the Twins, 5-4 at Target Field.
Carl Pavano is scheduled to start Saturday against the Brewers, and he might be able to avoid a cortizone shot after the game to help his strained throwing shoulder. Pavano met with a soft tissue specialist this week, and as long as he feels good he won't need the shot.
