St. Paul got a brand new Herb Brooks statue Wednesday.

The Minnesota Wild posted to Twitter that the Wild Foundation unveiled the 11-foot-tall statue outside of Herbie's on the Park. That's the restaurant that opened a few months ago in honor of the Minnesota hockey legend. It's near the Xcel Energy Center.

According to WCCO, this new statue replaces an older, life-sized statue of Brooks. And the Wild says it shows the coach with both hands in the air, striking his famous pose.

Herb Brooks

Herb Brooks went to the University of Minnesota in 1956, playing for the Gophers.

According to the U of M, he went on to play on two Olympic teams and five U.S. national teams before becoming the Golden Gophers’ head coach 1n 1972.

When Brooks took over, the U says the team wasn’t doing so well. But in just two years, he took the team to its first NCAA Hockey National Championship.

Then in 1980, Brooks had an Olympic victory. The legendary win inspired the film “Miracle on Ice.”

He died in 2003 at the age of 66, the Herb Brooks Foundation says.
