It's been a long road for Chisholm head men's basketball coach Bob Mcdonald, one that is coming to an end after this season.
After Thursday though, his 53rd and final campaign at the helm for the northern Minnesota high school may very well be his most memorable, as he earned win No. 1,000 against Walker-Hackensack-Akeley in Hibbing.
The 61-55 win brings his career record to 1,000-421. According to the Duluth News Tribune, he is just the 13th prep coach in history to reach the 1,000-win plateau, and the first Minnesota coach to get to four digits.
Bob's son Joel Mcdonald, Hibbing High School's head men's coach, made a short speech postgame congratulating his father in what he described to the Tribune as an emotional moment."Definitely emotional, seeing him shed a few tears after the game brought a few out for me. When you’re committed to something and you kind of live it, that’s the emotion you should have.”
This year marks the 59th season Mcdonald has been a head coach at the high school level, previously coaching for six seasons at McGregor and Barnum.
