The Gopher Men's hockey team captured their 5th straight conference championship, sweetened only by the fact that the win came over their rival Wisconsin Badgers and that their fifth title tied a NCAA record.
Luke Kunin drew first blood during the early minutes of the first period, but sophomore forward Leon Bristedt managed to equalize the score during the second period with a shorthanded goal, sending the game into the third period all tied up.
Junior Hudson Fasching backhanded in the eventual game-winner for his team-leading 20th goal of the season, breaking the seal for the Gophers offense. Junior forward Justin Kloos scored his own power-play shot off a feed from Brisdet and freshman Tommy Novak midway through the period.
The Gophers would proceed to run it up on their rivals during the final minute of regulation, with Brisdet streaking past the defense to slap in an empty net goal. Naturally, he had to jump into the boards to celebrate.
The Gophers will play in the semifinal round of the of the 2016 Big Ten Ice Hockey Tournament at Xcel Energy Center on Friday, March 18th. Face-off is at 7:30.
