College Hockey Roundup: Gophers lose to UMD, fall to 0-2


The University of Minnesota Duluth came into Mariucci Arena and beat the Gophers 3-1 Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the second. Jared Thomas put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard midway through the second. Minutes later, Austin Farley made it 2-0.

Minnesota cut it to one in the third when Brent Gates scored on a one-timer, but the Bulldogs put it away when Dominic Toninato scored seconds later.

The home-and-home series continues Saturday night at Amsoil Arena in Duluth.

SCSU's Lindgren shuts the door against MSU

Four different St. Cloud State Huskies scored and goaltender Charlie Lindgren was a brick wall as the Huskies beat Minnesota State 4-0 Friday night in St. Cloud.

Kalle Kossila had a goal and an assist to lead the Huskies to the victory.

David Morley put St. Cloud on the scoreboard with his second goal of the season at the 8:43 mark of the first period. Morley was assisted by Joey Benik and Jimmy Murray.

With St. Cloud leading 2-0, Kossila was involved with both third period goals to extend the lead. He assisted on Patrick Russell's goal to make it 3-0, then added to it for good measure a few moments later.

Bemidji State 4, North Dakota 4

Two Bemidji goals in the third period evened up the score and the score at 4, and the two teams were unable to break it as the Beavers and North Dakota finished in a 4-4 tie.

Gerry Fitzgerald's second goal of the season with 5:25 to play evened the score. Graeme McCormick had a pair of goals and Kyle Bauman added a goal and an assist.

North Dakota came into the game as the No. 1-ranked team in the country. The series continues on Saturday night in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
