The Minnesota State Mavericks finished out their regular season by taking home the MacNaughton Cup, becoming the WCHA regular season champions.
The Mavs earned the honor with a 3-0 shutout win over Bemidji State on the road Saturday.
Junior Brett Knowles had the first goal of the night 8:53 into the game. The second period was scoreless, then the final Maverick goals came in the third. Junior Bryce Gervais and Brad McClure scored the final points, according to Minnesota State Mavericks website.
The Mavericks finish the season 25-7-3 overall, 21-4-3 in WCHA play. They host Lake Superior in the first round of WCHA playoffs. The best-of-three series starts Friday.
The No. 15 Gophers lost t0 Ohio State 5-2 Saturday, splitting the weekend series.
Taylor Cammarata scored the first Minnesota goal, and Vinni Lettieri found the net minutes later for the second Gopher goal of the night.
Goalie Adam Wilcox had 27 saves.
The Gophers closes the regular season hosting Penn State next weekend.
University of Minnesota Duluth was shutout by Western Michigan 3-0. The Bulldogs finish off their regular season with a 20-13-3 record. They'll play Colorado College next week in the first round of NCHC playoffs.
St. Cloud State ended its season beating No. 7/8 University of Denver 4-2 at home.
St. Cloud goals were scored by: Jonny Brodzinski (2), David Morley and Joey Benik.
With the win, the Huskies will go to Omaha for the first round of NCHC playoffs on Friday, March 13, the Huskies newswire reports. The winner will come to the Target Center for the NCHC Frozen Faceoff.
