College of Sports Medicine ranks Twin Cities No. 1 in fitness health

For the second consecutive year, the American College of Sports Medicine has ranked Minneapolis-St. Paul as "the healthiest, fittest metropolitan area in the United States." The rankings are determined by four factors: preventive health behaviors, levels of chronic disease, access to health care, and community resources and policies that support physical activity.

Twin Cities retains No. 1 fitness ranking

For the second year in a row, Minneapolis-St. Paul has retained its No. 1 ranking among 50 metro areas in the annual American Fitness Index ranking by the American College of Sports Medicine. The index considers many factors, from diabetes rates and farmers markets per capita to the percentage of people who have exercised in the last 30 days.

No. 1 ranking not enough for Gophers

Despite being ranked No. 1 in the nation, the Golden Gophers men's hockey team isn't satisfied. Senior goaltender Kent Patterson says the team is happy with a 9-1 start, but they know the season is young and they have a long way to go.

Minnesota-Duluth still holds the nations top ranking in the latest Division II football coaches poll. The Bulldogs have won 17 games in a row overall and 31 straight in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Twins Cities' sports scene No. 9 in nation

As bad as the Minnesota sports scene may seem, the rest of the country doesn't necessarily view it the same way. AOL Real Estate used its own criteria to rank the sports scenes across the country, and the Twin Cities came up No. 9 on the list.

Gophers ranked No. 10 in the nation

Don Lucia's Golden Gophers jumped four spots in the USA Today/USA National College Hockey rankings from No. 14 to No. 10 in the country. Minnesota is off to a 4-0 start after sweeping UMD over the weekend.

Packers No. 1, Vikings No. 29 in new AP Pro32 rankings

The Green Bay Packers have topped the first-ever Associated Press Pro32 rankings. The new pro football poll is similar to the AP's college football and basketball rankings. The Minnesota Vikings ranked 29th -- only ahead of Cleveland, Jacksonville and Indianapolis.
