Elk River, Prior Lake advance to 3A state softball title game

It's been a day of upsets at the Girls' state softball tournament in North Mankato.

Defending 3A champion Stillwater was ousted by Prior Lake, 3-1, in quarterfinal play.

Prior Lake went on to beat Maple Grove, and will play Elk River in the state championship game. Elk River took down Orono and Forest Lake in the first two rounds.

In a 1A, New Life Academy knocked off Eden Valley-Watkins in the semifinals, 6-4. They'll play the championship against Blooming Prairie, who blanked Kerkoven-Murdock-Sunberg, 1-0.

In 2A, the state championship will be decided between the winners of the semifinal games between Kasson-Mantorville, who beat Hermantown in the semifinals, 6-1, and New Ulm, which stopped Rockford, 10-4.
