Despite a loss at home to Ohio State last Saturday the Minnesota Gophers football team remained in the College Football Playoff Top 25 on Tuesday.
Minnesota fell 31-24 to Ohio State Saturday afternoon. The Buckeyes were ranked eighth in last week's rankings and climbed two spots after their victory over the Gophers.
At No. 6, the Buckeyes are the highest of any Big Ten team in the playoff rankings.
According to the Star Tribune, the Gophers were 25th for the second consecutive week, despite remaining unranked in the top 25 of the AP and the Coaches polls.
The Gophers (7-3, 4-2) can still win the Big Ten West if they can win road games at Nebraska on Saturday and at Wisconsin next week. Both the Cornhuskers (23) and Badgers (16) are also in the top 25.
The top four teams will reach the college football's first ever playoff.
Alabama is the new No. 1 after their victory over Mississippi State on Saturday. Oregon is second, followed by Florida State and Mississippi State. TCU rounds out the top five.
Committee chair Jeff Long talked with ESPN about the teams at the top of the rankings.
