Detroit's David Price shuts down Twins on Opening Day

Opening Day 2015 didn't go as the Minnesota Twins and first year manager Paul Molitor had hoped. They were shutout by David Price and the Detroit Tigers 4-0 in Detroit Monday afternoon.

Price was spectacular for the Tigers, he kept the Twins off the scoreboard through 8 2/3 innings, while holding them to five hits. Price didn't walk anyone and struck out five.

Joe Nathan struck out Torii Hunter to close out the game.

Hunter was not pleased with the call from Joe West after the game.

Price's only real trouble came in the sixth inning. Kurt Suzuki and Jordan Schaefer led off the inning with back-to-back hits, but Price bounced back to strike out Danny Santana and then got Brian Dozier to bounce into a double-play to end the inning.

While Price kept the Twins silent, the Tigers' bats put some runs on the board early.

J.D. Martinez and Alex Avila each homered for Detroit in the second inning. Yoenis Cespedes also did some damage at the plate he was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.

It wasn't a great start for Twins starter Phil Hughes, he gave up four runs on eight hits in six innings, while striking out six.

Ricky Nolasco will take the mound for Minnesota (0-1) when the series continues on Wednesday against Detroit's Anibal Sanchez.
