State Hockey: Duluth East upends Edina to reach 2A title game

Duluth East rattled off three unanswered goals to beat Edina in the Class 2A semifinal game 3-1, Friday night.

The Greyhounds move into Saturday's championship game. Ash Altman's breakaway goal gave the Greyhounds a two goal lead with less than three minutes to play.

He finished with a goal and an assist in the game. The Greyhounds weren't seeded coming into the tournament, and lost 7-1 to Edina earlier in the season, but they were confident coming into the game.

They will face Lakeville North in Saturday's 2A championship game.

Lakeville North puts Eden Prairie away in the semis

Jack Poehling had a pair of goals, including the clincher in the final moments and Lakeville North cruised to a 6-2 victory over Eden Prairie on Friday night in the Class 2A semifinals.

The Panthers broke a 2-all tie after two periods by lighting the lamp four times in the third.

Nick Poehling added four assists and Max Johnson had a goal and an assist in the victory for the Panthers.

They will meet Duluth East on Saturday in the 2A championship.

Defending champion East Grand Forks heads back to Class A title game

East Grand Forks is one win away from repeating as the Class 1A state champion of boys' hockey.

The Green Wave rolled over Mahtomedi by a score of 5-2 Friday in the first semifinal game of the day at Xcel Energy Center. They'll play No. 1 seed Hermantown on Saturday at noon.

MN Hockey Hub referred to the game as a physical, intense battle.

Grant Loven tallied a hat trick for East Grand Forks.

 Hermantown heads to Class A title game

The Hermantown Hawks are headed back to the Class A state championship game after beating St. Cloud Apollo 2-0 in the semifinals, Friday afternoon at the Xcel Energy Center.

After a scoreless first period, Jesse Jacques put the Hawks on top with a goal. The score stayed 1-0 all the way until the third period, when Chris Koepke put the contest on ice.

Apollo did a nice job holding down an Eagles team that was averaging 6 goals a game coming into the contest.

It's the sixth straight year in the state title game for Hermantown.

They will meet up with defending champion East Grand Forks on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center.
