It's a bittersweet end for the Nikola Pekovic era.

Signing the hulking 6'11" 305 pound Pekovic seemed like a good idea in 2013; the power forward was averaging 17.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game that season.

However, a lingering foot injury shortly after he signed hampered his once-promising career, and now Nikola Pekovic has finally been waived by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The big man out of Montenegro played in just 97 games with the Timberwolves after signing a five-year, $60 million deal just 4 years ago.

Due to the foot injury, "Pek," as he was affectionately called by Wolves fans, played in just 12 games over the past two seasons, and hasn't stepped on the court since January of 2016.

The Wolves will get significant salary-cap relief from the transaction; Pekovic was set to earn $11.6 million for the final year of his contract next season.

NBA free agency period begins on July 1st. With the Pekovic contract off the books, the Timberwolves will now have more spending power to attract potential free agents this off-season.
