It's been less than a month since the Vikings gave the starting middle linebacker job to rookie Eric Kendricks, but what he's done with it since garnered him some much deserved recognition from the NFL.
Kendricks, the Vikings' second-round pick out of UCLA, has been named the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Month for October.
Kendricks played in just three October games, but he's racked up 20 tackles, 4 sacks, 5 tackles for loss and he's put 5 hits on quarterbacks. His 4 sacks are tied for fifth most in the NFL.
Past Vikings to win Rookie of the Month awards:
- 1997 – Dwayne Rudd, LB
- 1998 – Randy Moss, WR
- 2003 – Kevin Williams, DT
- 2007 – Adrian Peterson, RB (twice)
- 2009 – Percy Harvin, WR
- 2013 – Cordarrelle Patterson, WR
Kendricks is also up for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week Award after making six tackles and sacking Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford twice.
