Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense is sputtering of late, but if history repeats itself Sunday in Minneapolis Rodgers might just morph into a flame thrower and torch the Vikings.
Rodgers' career as a starter against Minnesota (including the playoffs): 3,764 yards, 32 TD, 4 INT, 119.0 passer rating
A year-by-year glance at what he's done to the Vikings since taking over for Brett Favre in 2008:
- 2014: 5 TD, 0 INT
- 2013: 2 TD, 0 INT (one game due to injury)
- 2012: 6 TD, 1 INT (three games with playoffs)
- 2011: 7 TD, 0 INT
- 2010: 6 TD, 2 INT
- 2009: 5 TD, 1 INT
- 2008: 1 TD, 0 INT
Yikes. But Rodgers has never topped 300 yards passing in four career games against a defense led by Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, ESPN reports.
Even though Rodgers has tossed 6 touchdowns and only 1 interception during the losing streak, the Green Bay Press Gazette called it his worst three-game stretch of his career. The newspaper added that after attempting a team record 61 passes in Sunday's loss to the lowly Lions, it's now clear that Green Bay "can’t throw their way out of this mess."
ESPN speculates that Rodgers might be playing hurt after showing signs of knee and foot problems last week. Rodgers says he's healthy, but that could be tough guy talk. Then again, that same ESPN article mentioned the possibility of drama in his relationship with actress Olivia Munn as a guess as to why Rodgers might be struggling.
Regardless of whether Rodgers is in his girlfriend's doghouse, the Vikings can maintain their place in the NFC North penthouse by keeping the Packers down Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium.
