'Everyday Eddie' Guardado closes in on Twins Hall of Fame

Author:

Eddie Guardado, who pitched for Minnesota for 12 seasons, goes into the Twins Hall of Fame tonight in a ceremony at Target Field.

He, along with longtime Twins public relations director Tom Mee, will be inducted before the Twins-Tigers game.

Guardado, 42, saved 116 games in his role as the Twins closer, including a career high 45 in 2002, leading the American League.

According to Star Tribune writer Patrick Reusse, he earned the nickname "Everday Eddie" when leading the major league with 83 appearances in 1996. He left the Twins in 2003, to sign a big free-agent contract with Seattle. He also played in Cincinnati, Texas and Minnesota once again (2008), before retiring in 2009.

Eddie's most memorable game? Arguably, it's the 2002 ALDS clincher against Oakland -- the last time the Twins have tasted true playoff glory. For some reason, the entire game is on YouTube. If you have a spare 2:54:28, check it out:
