The Yankees marked the 50th anniversary of Maris' record-setting home run by donating $5,000 to Sanford's Roger Maris Cancer Center. Maris was born in Minnesota and grew up in Fargo before starring with the Yankees. He died of cancer in 1985.

The Wild and the Cullen Children's Foundation announced Friday a donation of $1 million to the Sanford Health Foundation in Fargo, N.D., which is near the player's hometown of Moorhead.
