A football coach at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City High School got quite the shock when he found out the Vice President of the United States was interested in a homecoming music video he and his team put together.

Falcons coach David Blom, a 2002 graduate of ACGC himself, said the team put together the video to One Direction's "What Makes you Beautiful, for a homecoming message to encourage positive relationships with women.

On Tuesday, it was Blom though, who had a smile on his face as he opened a letter from Vice President Joe Biden thanking Blom for his efforts to "combat domestic violence."

Blom told Bring Me The News that he tries to put together a positive off-the-field message every year in order to teach his players about more than just football.

Past messages have focused on things like drinking and driving or other issues faced by teenagers at high schools across Minnesota.

This year, Blom says something clicked when he heard the One Direction song. So he got the team together along with some of his assistant coaches and they spent 2 1/2 to 3 hours filming the video.

"At first they thought it was a little stupid," admits Blom. "But I said if we can embarrass ourselves to make somebody's day a little better or make a girl feel beautiful than we are doing our job."

And there are plenty of smiles to be had during the 3:17 video.

"I could hand these guys pamphlets about the dangers of things like drinking and driving or safe sex and one or two kids might open it up and see it," Blom said. "But if I can find a way to get it to stick in their mind it could make an impact and will get across to all of these kids."

Blom has been humbled by the attention, but gives a lot of credit to his assistant coaches and all of the teachers in the ACGC School District.

"I'm getting a lot of the press, but it's not just me," Blom said. "It's everybody here."
