Free-agent tracker: Vikings sign Shaun Hill to be Bridgewater's backup

The NFL's free-agent signing period officially underway. Teams have been able to negotiate with free agents since Saturday, but deals will started to close Tuesday afternoon – and the reports will be numerous, so check back frequently for Vikings-related updates.

Here's what's happening so far.

9:07 p.m. – Clint Bolling, offensive line

One of the offensive linemen the Minnesota Vikings were looking at has decided to stay put. Clint Boling has opted to remain in Cincinnati. The Vikings were thought to be interested in the Boling to fill a hole at left guard after they released Charlie Johnson.

5:05 p.m. – Andrew Gachkar, linebacker

It appears as though the Vikings are honing in on linebacker Andrew Gachkar. According to the Pioneer Press, the 26-year-old is expected to meet with the Vikings this week either Wednesday or Thursday.

Gachkar had 38 tackles, 1 sack and a fumble recovery for a touchdown last season for the Chargers.

4:40 p.m. – A.J. Hawk, linebacker

One player who it seemed like Minnesota had some interest in was former Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk, but Hawk is headed to coach Mike Zimmer's former team. ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting Hawk is signing a contract with Cincinnati.

3:14 p.m. – Shaun Hill, quarterback

The Pioneer Press reports the Vikings have signed former Rams quarterback Shaun Hill to be Teddy Bridgewater's backup. Hill, who began his career with the Vikings from 2002-05, was also receiving interest from the Rams and Raiders.

The Vikings decided on Hill over another former Vikings quarterback Tavaris Jackson, who expressed interest in the job last week.

3:02 p.m. – Joe Berger, offensive line

Multiple media reports indicate the Vikings agreed to a two-year contract extension with offensive lineman Joe Berger.

2:56 p.m. – Haloti Ngata, defensive line Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions found their replacement for Ndamukong Suh. They agreed to trade a fourth and fifth round pick to Baltimore for defensive lineman Haloti Ngata.

According to Pro Football Talk, Ngata refused to take a pay cut from his $8.5 million salary in Baltimore and is in the final year of his contract.

12:02 p.m. – Mike Harris, offensive line

A source confirmed to 1500 ESPN that the Vikings tendered a contract to offensive lineman Mike Harris – a restricted free agent. According to the report, the offer to Harris, who made $570,000 in 2014, is over $1 million.

10:19 a.m. – Davon House, Cornerback

It was reported Monday that the Vikings were interested in the former Packers cornerback, but Ian Rapoport reports House is on his way to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars at an annual rate of $6.25 million.

8:45 a.m. – Devin McCourty, Safety

ESPN's Ben Goessling reports the Vikings made a run at McCourtey before backing off once his annual price tag topped the $8 million mark. McCourtey wound up agreeing to a five-year, $47.5 million contract to stay with the Patriots.

Monday rumors: Hill, Crabtree, more

Aaron Ziemer pieced together a fantastic summary of all the names tied to the Vikings on Monday. The long list includes quarterback Shaun Hill, running back Stevan Ridley, wide receiver Michael Crabtree, guard Clint Boling, linebacker A.J. Hawk, safety Rahim Moore and cornerbacks Bradley Fletcher and Davon House.
