Gardenhire named to All-Star Game coaching staff

Twins fans now know one of the team's All-Star Game representatives.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire will be coaching on the American League All-Star team's staff.

The news was announced by Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell, who was at Target Field to open a three-game series against the Twins.

Farrell, who will manage the American League team, said that Gardenhire and Cleveland manager Terry Francona would the other two American League managers on his staff.

The pennant winners from each league always manage the All-Star Game. Farrell's Red Sox are coming off the World Series Championship last season.

The All-Star Game is being hosted at Target Field on July 14 and Gardenhire has been the manager of the Twins since 2002.

"I think out of respect to him and the city and the organization, it's a natural fit," Farrell said.

According to 1500 ESPN, Gardenhire didn't mention that he would on the All-Star staff during his pregame media session on Tuesday.

It's too early to know which Twins players will be playing in the game. Pucketts Pond reports the early leaders appear to be Brian Dozier, Kurt Suzuki, Glenn Perkins and Joe Mauer.
