Fans attending the New Year's Day bowl game in sunny Orlando, Florida, will enjoy the newly renovated Orlando Citrus Bowl Stadium. According to the Orlando Sentinel, teams like LSU, Penn State, Wisconsin and South Carolina that played at the stadium in recent years, didn't get the "wow factor" that the Gophers and Tigers will thanks to a $207 million stadium makeover. The upgrades were centered around a new party deck for fans.

"A 20,000-square- foot Plaza Deck, perfectly configured for the party crowd. Three huge LED screens, including one that is 88 feet wide and nearly four stories high. Molded plastic chair-backs and 6 extra inches of legroom. And bathrooms without those disgusting troughs. "

The early line on the game from Vegas Insider has Missouri favored by 7.5 points.

Gophers coach Jerry Kill has never won a bowl game. He lost two when he was head coach of Northern Illinois and he's 0-2 with the Gophers. Minnesota has lost six straight bowl games since beating Alabama in the 2004 Music City Bowl, according to the Star Tribune.

The Missourian notes that Tigers coach Gary Pinkel has led Missouri to five wins in nine bowl appearances.

Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill told KARE 11's Dave Schwartz that playing a New Year's Day bowl game is "special."

  • 1944 - Minnesota 39, Mizzou 27 in Minneapolis
  • 1945 - Minnesota 34, Mizzou 0 in Minneapolis
  • 1961 - Mizzou 6, Minnesota 0 in Minneapolis

  • 1965 - Mizzou 17, Minnesota 6 in Minneapolis
  • 1966 - Mizzou 24, Minnesota 0 in Columbia
  • 1970 - Mizzou 34, Minnesota 12 in Columbia

Tigers head coach Gary Pinkel admitted that he doesn't know a lot about the Gophers.

"I know they're a very well coached football team," Pinkel told Mizzou's athletics department. "I know that they've had great success up there. He (Jerry Kill) has done a great job with that program. I've seen them a little bit on TV. Other than that, I don't know a lot about them. They had a great year this season."

Missouri won the SEC East division title before losing to Alabama in the SEC championship game on Saturday.
