Gopher football program lands commitment from 3-star tight end recruit

Gopher football coach Jerry Kill is putting the finishing touches on his 2015 recruiting class.

Monday night, coach Kill and the Gopher staff received some more good news – as Minnesota received a commitment from Grand Rapids, Michigan, native Bryce Witham.

Witham, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end also was drawing interest from Toledo, Southern Miss, Buffalo and Central Michigan, according to 24/7 Sports.

The Star Tribune reports Witham is a consensus three-star recruit. The newspaper reports he is Minnesota's 21st commitment of the 2015 recruiting class.

According to M-Live, Witham caught 16 touchdowns passes and was the leading receiver on his West Catholic High School team in Grand Rapids. He compiled over 800 yards receiving and starred along the defensive line, while leading his high school to their second consecutive 14-0 Division 5 state championship.

"On my visit there, I loved Minnesota. There wasn't one bad thing I could find about it," Witham said. "I love all the people there, especially the coaches. The players made me feel like I was part of a family. I want to be part of a successful program that they have there, and I want to help keep Minnesota on the rise."

The Gophers will have a big hole to fill at tight end next season, as their leading receiver, Maxx Williams, announced that he was entering the NFL Draft.
