The Gopher hockey team controlled the ice and the scoreboard in their 6-2 win over RPI in the third place game of the Mariucci Shootout on Saturday night.

Just one night after their stunning loss to Colgate the Gophers took out some frustration on RPI as they dominated the hockey game, outshooting the Red Hawks 44-20.

Kyle Rau finished with two goals on the night to lead the Gophers. Travis Boyd also had a big night finishing with a goal and an assist.

Minnesota bounced back from an early RPI goal that gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead.

The Gophers answered back with four unanswered goals to take control. Connor Reilly got the Gophers on the scoreboard near the end of the first period to even the score at one.

That burst of energy for Minnesota carried into the second period as Boyd, Rau and Justin Kloos all netted goals in the first seven minutes of the second period to put Minnesota up 4-1.

Minnesota improves to 13-2-3 on the season with the win. The Gophers will head to Penn State next week for a Big Ten weekend two game series.
