Gopher hockey swept in the Mile High City

The Gophers' No. 14 rating in the PairWise standings doesn't look good. Ask head coach Don Lucia and he'll say that ranking doesn't matter until the end of the season. With six games remaining, Lucia says the Gophers are "in a good position right now." He added, "as long as you win games, you don't have to worry about it."

There are 27 players on the Gophers' hockey team. 18 of them are either sophomore's or true freshman. Despite the youth, head coach Don Lucia is hoping his upperclassmen will lead the team on and off the ice. He'll also be expecting many of his talented youngsters to score goals.

Hockey Gophers face tougher test at Duluth

The hockey Gophers blasted Sacred Heart last weekend, scoring 15 goals in two games. It’ll get a little tougher tomorrow night in Duluth, where Minnesota takes on on the defending national champion Bulldogs in a weekend series. Right now, UMD is ranked No. 9 in the nation, the Gophers are ranked 14th.
