Ralph Sampson III is back in the starting lineup tonight as the Gophers host Appalachian State in non-conference play at Williams Arena. Sampson missed the previous two games because of a turned ankle. Andre Hollins is also starting despite turning an ankle in Saturday's win over USC.

Mbakwe lifts Gophers past D-II Augustana in exhibition

The Gophers men’s basketball team defeated Augustana 72-60 Monday in exhibition action. Trevor Mbakwe led Minnesota with 22 points and 13 rebounds. It was their final tune-up before regular season play begins with a non-conference game against Bucknell Friday night at Williams Arena.

Gophers down to two healthy RB's

The over-matched Gophers are down to two running backs -- Duane Bennett and Donnell Kirkwood. Hamstring injuries are expected to keep David Cobbs and Devin Wright out against Nebraska. Lamonte Edwards could see action at linebacker and running back if he's needed.

Sources close to the Gophers' basketball team told the Star Tribune that Ralph Sampson III is unlikely to play in tonight's game against Mount St. Mary's. Sampson III turned his ankle in the closing moments of last week's win over Fairfield.

Gophers face South Dakota St. in second tune-up

After getting past Bucknell in Friday's opener, South Dakota State is the second non-conference test for Tubby Smith's Gophers tonight. The Jackrabbits feature former St. Cloud Tech standout Nate Wolters, who last year was rumored to be coming to Minnesota to play point guard.
