Gophers AD on Saul Smith DUI: 'We just can't have behavior like that'

After being arrested for DWI last week, Gophers assistant basketball coach Saul Smith’s fate is in the hands of athletic director Norwood Teague, who said Smith is very remorseful. Teague plans to let the legal process play out and “see where it lands.”

Gophers' assistant coach Saul Smith will return to the men's basketball team on Nov. 13, the Star Tribune reports. Smith is on paid leave until his comeback. NIT chairman C.M. Newton says Tubby Smith won't lead the Gophers to an NCAA championship without a new practice facility. Newton was Kentucky's athletic director when Smith led the Wildcats to an NCAA title in 1998. Minnesota's athletic director Joel Maturi says "there's no question" the Gophers basketball team needs its own practice facility, and they "need to find a way to get it."
