Gophers AD: Tracy Claeys 'is our football coach'

Get ready for more of Tracy Claeys leading the Gophers.

After finishing the regular season 8-4, it looks like Tracy Claeys will return for a second full season as the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers head football coach.

There had been some speculation about whether eight wins would be enough for Claeys to keep his job. But that speculation ended quickly on Monday with this statement from U of M Athletic Director Mark Coyle.

Claeys signed a three-year, $4.5 million deal last November, but that deal included a buyout of just $250,000 per remaining season.

While Coyle's statement didn't mention anything about a contract extension for Claeys, the Star Tribune reports that a source says the school plans to offer extensions to Claeys and his coaching staff.

Since taking over for Jerry Kill – who resigned midway through the 2015 season – Claeys has gone 10-8 as Minnesota's head coach.

The Gophers will likely be looking at an appearance in the Holiday Bowl Dec. 27 in San Diego.
