Gophers beat up on Buckeyes, open weekend with a win

The Minnesota Gopher men's hockey team opened the weekend with a 4-2 victory over Ohio State, Friday night at Mariucci Arena.

Minnesota got out to an early lead on first period goals from Leon Bristedt and Justin Kloos. Kloos finished with a goal and an assist, as he set up Bristedt on the first goal of the night.

After Ohio State scored to cut the Gophers' lead to 2-1, Minnesota answered right back with two more goals in the second. Minnesota was just 10 seconds into a power play in the second period, when Travis Boyd scored to put the Gophers back up by two,

Just three minutes later, Vinni Lettieri put the Gophers up 4-1 with his goal.

The Gophers kept the pressure on as they peppered Ohio State goaltender Christian Frey with 42 shots on net. Frey stopped 38 of them, but that pressure pulled Minnesota to the victory.
